The Google Contacts team announced last night that address book information will start being displayed on your friends Google+ profiles, if you have them stored.
This is a pretty handy update and doesn’t require you to add or remove any information on your end, since the details are completely populated from the visitors Google Contact account.
Many of you, like me, use Google Contacts to manage your personal address book (contacts.google.com). If that’s the case, then starting today we’ll include this contact info on your friends’ Google+ profiles — for your eyes only, of course.
This way, if you have your roommate’s new phone number in Google Contacts, it’ll also be available when you stop by his profile. Just look for the new “Details from Google Contacts” section.
A fantastic feature. It’s always hard to keep up with everyone’s contact info, and being able to know everyone in, say, my family and close friends circles will always be synced with my up-to-date phone number and address makes things easy. Then again, it might sound a little too easy: I know it’s just a matter of time before the privacy pedants will show up to ruin our interconnected party.
This update does come in as pretty useful since users will not have to either remove or add any information and the visitors will be able to see your contact information at your profile after they find the newly added “Details from Google Contacts” section. There are no privacy concerns as the feature will only show up for the viewer which is a more secure way to handle contact information than what Facebook is doing which is giving them the option of displaying their contact number or not.
